Full Moons in General

Full moons coincide with the culmination of the past six months' efforts. They involve tension between what is felt (physically and emotionally) and what is known and seen.

By looking at the sign in which a full moon occurs and then noting which house that sign falls in your own natal chart, you can identify the area of your life that is coming to a point of fruition at this time. The Topics by Rising Sign section at the end of this article will help you do just that.

If you set intentions during the new moon in the same sign six months ago, the full moon is a great time to take stock of how those plans have worked out. Think about what worked, and what needs to go in order to reach your goals for this area of your life. Then make plans and set intentions for the next six months to focus on the most functional approaches and drop whatever has proven to hinder your progress.

This Full Moon's Chart Features

  • Moon in Leo's third decan: At the time of this full moon, we are feeling a mix of bravery and guardedness. On the one hand, we very much want to express ourselves and, on the other, we'd like to protect ourselves from potential attacks. This sense of wariness could be the remnant of an old wound, still coloring our view of the world, causing us to project the image of the aggressor where no threat exists.

  • Leo's ruler, Sun, in Aquarius' third decan: The feelings described in the previous bullet are illuminated by and responding to a pull in the opposite direction: to disengage with our egos and let go of the stories of who we are. When we stop focusing on ourselves, we make space for other people and things. But there are costs and benefits to each thing: a sense of identity is helpful at times, while at others it holds us back. This full moon highlights the tension between those two polarities.

  • Sun copresent with ruler Saturn in Aquarius' second decan: Responsibilities, boundaries, limits and discipline permeate and influence the pull to let go of attachment to our personal stories.

  • Sun copresent with Mercury in Aquarius' first decan: Communications and thoughts also support the impulse to let go of the personal to focus on the collective. We may make new discoveries in this area through research, writing or conversation.

  • Venus conjunct Mars in Capricorn's second decan: Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the planet of pleasant connections formed an exact conjunction with the planet of aggressively pursuing desires, and that fusion remains potent at the time of the eclipse. While not configured to the moon itself, this energy is worth noting. At best, it seems good for working toward practical goals with others. More negative manifestations could include people treating each other poorly for personal gain.

  • Jupiter in Pisces' second decan sextile Uranus in Taurus' second decan:  Another energy not directly tied into the moon’s placement in the chart, but is worth noting: the planet of expansion, luck and faith is slowly moving into a supportive and energizing relationship with the planet of sudden change and authenticity. This could help some people make needed changes, or it could simply help us to find peace with things that have recently changed. Well-calculated risks may be more likely to yield desired results.

Recommendations

  1. Review the past six months, specifically regarding topics of self-expression and courage.

  2. Check the rising sign list below and think about the corresponding house topics as well. Consider the actions you've been taking in these areas of life and whether they are helping you achieve your goals.

  3. Keep what's working, discard the rest. Leave behind activities that aren't bringing you closer to your ideal vision for safety and comfort in the life areas specified by the rising sign list. Focus your efforts on those approaches that do work.
