Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius 2020

This lunar eclipse will be exact at 15 degrees of Sagittarius on June 5th, 2020 at 12:13 p.m. PT/ 3:13 p.m. ET / 8:13 p.m. UK

Hello, Friends. Given the massive, nationwide effort to put an end to centuries of institutionalized, state-sanctioned violence and oppression against black people, I feel it is only right to use my tiny platform to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. As a white person, it is my understanding that the best thing I can do right now is to listen to what black people have to say and to amplify their voices so they are heard by as many people as possible. As an astrologer, I am taking a step back from my usual horoscope writing to encourage you to seek guidance from black astrologers. This is of course not an extensive list, but a place for you to start:

  • Jasmine Richardson: Jasmine makes up one third of Kosmic Tonic, and is someone who I personally know and can vouch for. Find Jasmine at kosmictonic.com or @kosmictonic on Instagram

  • Sam Reynolds: Sam has over 25 years of experience with multiple modalities. Find Sam at unlockastrology.com or @sfreynolds on Instagram

  • Shakirah Tabourn: Kira combines modern and traditional techniques, is passionate about queer issues, activism, magic and more. Find Kira at www.thestrology.com or @thestrology on Instagram

  • Six: Six delivers insightful and charming videos via Instagram and YouTube. She describes herself as an Intimacy Doula, and is currently working on her PhD in Human Sexuality. Find her at blackwomencry.com or @blackwomencry on Instagram

Once you've had your fill of astrological guidance, please support the Black Lives Matter movement in every way that you are able. This is an incredibly important time. We must stand firmly in defense of the greatest good for all beings. We cannot allow this unbelievable police brutality to continue.

Throughout the month of June, I am pledging to give 50% of all proceeds from readings to BLM Philly. You may donate to them directly here: http://www.blmphilly.com/

With all of that said, I have decided to include a small, general writeup about this eclipse below. It was written prior to George Floyd's murder, and like all of my astrology writings, contains no references to worldly events. It's a blank slate for you to paint. May it aid you in your activism.

Any feedback or insight into how I can be a better ally is welcome and appreciated. Email me: element@octothorpeindustries.com

Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius

While all full moons coincide with the release of something, that theme is magnified by this lunation's copresence with the south node of the moon. The moon’s nodes are the points at which eclipses occur, and since eclipses always entail a darkening of one of the luminaries, they carry with them an ominous flavor.

This lunar eclipse is the first eclipse to occur along the Gemini - Sagittarius axis since the nodes ingressed those signs in early May 2020. This is the axis of knowledge and wisdom. With the north node in Gemini, there is an insatiable desire to consume information, to compare and converse. The south node in Sagittarius brings a need to clear out the clutter of our old, unquestioned beliefs.

To get a better idea of what this eclipse cycle may have in store for you, it may be helpful to consider the previous cycle. From November 2018 through early May 2020, the nodes inhabited the Cancer - Capricorn axis, highlighting themes of security with each eclipse season. It is likely that you experienced some kind of increase in the area of your chart/life that is occupied by Cancer, and a clearing out in the area of your chart/life occupied by Capricorn.

While that theme of increase and decrease will remain, with the eclipses occurring in Gemini and Sagittarius, they will happen differently than the previous 18 months.

With this particular eclipse on June 5th, we will be getting our first taste of those old and unhelpful beliefs or goals that no longer serve us. You may discover that you have been unconsciously operating under assumptions that you no longer actually believe, or working toward an aim based on an outdated world-view. These assumptions could be aspects of your childhood conditioning that have gone unquestioned yet formed the backdrop of your life’s major decisions. Another possibility is that some project, area of study, or philosophy could be revealed to have been based on outdated information.

This eclipse has the moon applying very tightly to a square with Mars in Pisces. Less than a day later, the moon will also square Neptune in the same sign. Our emotions and needs at this time may reveal to us a need to overcome a conflict regarding deception, manipulation, lack of clarity or misunderstood motives.

Additionally, we are still in the middle of Venus’ retrograde cycle, which continues until June 25th. This has us reconsidering our connections to others as well as ourselves. Adding to the theme of reconsideration, Mercury is in his retrograde shadow, meaning that when he does turn retrograde in mid June, the events of this time are likely to reemerge for review or redoing.
